ACHIEVEMENTS

Achievements 2023:

The Department of Anesthesia at GMC Srinagar is dedicated to offering all national residents the highest caliber of healthcare through the provision of anesthesia, pain management, and critical care by highly trained and responsible personnel.The work of the department in the last one year have been an achievement in the field of medicine for our institution , some notable are as follows:

  1. In 2022-2023, about 72,000 cases were performed under anesthesia throughout all affiliated hospitals.

Anesthesia for Organ Transplantation: Over 9 successful kidney and 26 cochlear transplant cases have been completed in the last year.

More than 3000 cases of Intervention Cardiology , Radio Frequency Ablation. , radiotherapy and psychiatry patient treatment were accomplished under anesthesia.

  2. Introduction of state of the art bariatric treatment and successful completion of 50 bariatric surgery cases under general anesthesia in the past year has bought our health department on the map of advance treatment giving institutes of the nation.

Achieving the goal of more than a 3000 cases in super speciality hospital , that has completed ended the need for the patients of the union territory to move out for treatment.

  3. Starting of Maxillary Facial Surgeries in Super Specialty Hospital has added another feather in the cap of speciality surgeries being performed in our hospital.

  4. Emphasis on teaching and learning process which is accomplished by twice a week interactive class and seminars on monthly basis to improve knowledge of our doctors.

  5. Increase in number of ICU Beds from 7 to 76 with starting of 4 new ICUs in various GMC Srinagar and Associated Hospitals Super speciality training in critical care medicine has been run by the department for past 2 years in order to provide ICU trained doctors and care for more than 2000 patients in various intensive care units of our institution.

  6. Starting of fellowship training programs in Trauma anesthesia & Critical Care , and Pediatric Anesthesia .

  7. Increase in number of post graduate seats from twenty four to thirty five , so as to provide more qualified anesthesiologist to the nation.

  8.Palliative care and pain management training for health care staff of ten districts of J&K to improve healthcare in our union territory.

         Live Workshops and Training Programs in Obstetrics,Urology, Robotics and Minimal Access Surgery were possible only with the help of department of anesthesiology

         Constant promotion of research work and hands on training programs using simulator technology of resident doctors and consultants equally for improvement of skill and better patient outcome.



Changes in the last 2 years

• Starting of 4 new ICUs in various hospitals of GMC Srinagar
• Up gradation of ICUs in terms of bed capacity from a total of 12 to 36
• Starting of a new theater complex in SSH with fully function 5 tables 6 days a week and add on tables in LDH, B&J AND SMHS .
• Anesthesia for cardiology, gastroentology , radiotherapy , chemotherapy , radiological and interventional procedures
• Modernization of equipment in ICUs and theaters with availability of state of the art technology
• Addition staffing to meet the growing needs to ensure better health care to masses
• New academic courses which include super specialty course in critical care and under graduate course in anesthesia technology to train future generations
• Critical care to severely ill COVID 19 patients in two ICUs each in CDH and SMHS

DURING THE COVID PANDEMIC

• 900 COVID patients managed in ICUs
• More than 20,000 cases done in various theaters of GMC Srinagar hospital under Anesthesia
• 1200 critically ill treated in various ICUs
• Over a 300 cases of radiology , GE , radiotherapy and ECT done
