It gives me immense pleasure to hear about the launch of the Srinagar Medical College website. The occasion takes me back to the day many decades ago when the first batch of students of which I was one, assembled in the lawns of the Saddar Hospital on Old Hospital Road at the very place where Lal Ded Hospital stands today. That was the day when the College was born.
Since then the mother institution has produced thousands of talented doctors – men and women, who served and continue to serve humanity all over the world. Many of them worked and are working in positions of responsibility and shape the delivery of healthcare in many parts of the world. But many stayed on to share the Valley’s pains and pleasures over these years, and many took on the responsibility of training further generations of Kashmiri doctors. This is a great day for all of us.
My recent trip through the crevices of the college and SMHS Hospital – the institution that has stood by Kashmiris in their hours of need, overwhelmed me with the feeling that like changing scenes on a stage, performers come and go but the mission remains unchanged.
My heartiest congratulations to everyone involved in the project.
