About Department

The department of Dermatology, Venereology and Leprosy, Government Medical College Srinagar was established as a separate department in 1972 and was headed by Prof. G.H.Hajini who remained at the helm of affairs for almost 25 years. He was succeeded by Prof. Qazi Masood Ahmad in 1997 who headed the department for approximately 12 years and then went on to become the Principal/Dean of Government Medical College Srinagar. The Department is presently headed by Prof. Iffat Hassan Shah who became Head of the Department in 2011.

       In July 1987, approval was granted for starting the postgraduate and diploma course in Dermatology, Venereology and Leprology by the Medical Council of India which was further recognized by it in 2010.
