About Department

Urology as a distinct superspeciality was started at Government Medical College Srinagar in December 2012.

Prof(Dr.) Syed Sajjad Nazir is the first Professor & Head of the department. The department is dedicated to the teaching and training of Urology of the highest standard. The DNB programme was started in the year 2019 , with the intake capacity of Two Candidates per year. At present we have 4 DNB Superspeciality Candidates and from this year , the department has been accorded with Mch in Urology with 2 seats / year.

  The department is fully equipped with the latest technology such as Endourological surgeries ( TURP,TUR BT, PCNL, URSL, RIRS) ESWL, Urodynamics, Lasers, Microsurgery, Laparoscopic Surgery and 3 D Laparoscopic surgeries . state of art medical care is provided for a variety of Urological ailments and it serves as a referral center for complicated problems for patients in J&K. The out patients clinic is attended by over 18000 patients annually. The department conducts over 900 Major surgeries annually.
